Arrest Made in Death of 263 Cumberland Avenue Retired Restaurant Owner

263 Cumberland Avenue, Where the February 17th Incident Happened.

Today, Jonathan Alas was charged with murder in the death of Christopher Godin, 263 Cumberland Avenue, Portland.  Alas has been hospitalized at Maine Medical Center since February, 17, the night of the incident.

Backtracking, on February 17, 2023, jut after 7;00 PM, police were called to 263 Cumberlqnd Avenue for the report of a disturbance.  The first officers on scene found Christopher Godin, 58, in a hallway deceased.

Jonathan Alas, 27, was found in another area within the apartment building suffering from serious injuries.  Officers brought him to an awaiting ambulance and he was taken to Maine Medical Center.

On February 18, Godin’s body was brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy determined that his death was a homicide.  The cause of death is not being released at this time.  Godin was well-known in the area becaue he ran the popular restaurant – “Granny’s B’urritos” – for over 20 years in different locations in Portland.  This was during the 1990s until 2017.  The restaurant was once located at 10 Exchange Street and 420 Fore Street.
