The annual Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration will be capped off tomorrow morning with a breafkast that starts at 8 am, at the Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland. The date is Monday, January 21, 2013.
The event will begin with local youth kicking off the celebrfation’s theme of “We The People.” Rinku Sen President and Executive Director of Applied Research Center will deliver the keynote with two local high school students Fatma Adnad, a senior at Casco Bay High and Mohaned Nur, a sophomore at Deering High School serving as Master of Ceremonies. The event wil concude with a life-streaming of President Barack Obama’s inauguration.
The breakfast will also include a nuimber of unique interactive programs for children. Children ages four to seven will get to meet Maine children’s book author/illustrator Cathryn Falwell and hearing a reading of her award winning picture book, David’s Drawings. Falwell and volunteers will lead children in a series of cooperative art projects and games including the creation of a “I Have a Dream” Tree which will be displayed at the Portland Public Library.
