The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will kick off Portland’s holiday season in Monument Square. The event is scheduled for Friday, November 25, at 5:30 pm at Monument Square. The event is hosted by Portland’s Downtown District.
The beautiful 55 ft. blue spruce was selected by City of Portland forestry crews and donated by Lori and Allan Huff, South Portland. Over 2,500 sparkling LED lights were donated by Efficiency Maine, and staff and equipment donations from Keely Crane Company and Shaw Bros. Construction Company made it possible for the tree to be transported for the ceremony.
Following the traditional entertainment, 11 year old Make-A-Wish child, Hannah Storey from Cumberland, will light the tree. Hannah is diagnosed with cystic fibrosis and her wish is to go to Atlantis Resort, which will happen in January. “We look forward to Hannah joining us this year to light this very special tree and enjoy the magic of the holiday season,” said Jan Beitzer, Executive Director of Portland’s Downtown District.
The Portland Public library is open until 6 pm with its annual open house and complimentary refreshments.
