The 9th Annual Litterbox Auction Fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, November 14th from 6:00 -9:00 pm at Ocean Gateway, Commercial Street, Portland. It benefits The Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine (HART), a no-kill adoption center and shelter for cats and kittens. Advance tickets are $30. each or $55 for a pair by going to www.hartofme.com. Tickets are also available for $40. at the door on Friday.
The auction will feature 300 items of all types and prices, including gift certificates from restaurants, hair salons, spas and many local businesses. Vacation getaways include a week’s stay in a private home on Anna Maria Island in Florida and a Boston Package which includes two Amtrak tickets, one overnight at the Loews Boston Hotel and two Boston restaurant gift certificates. There will be silent bidding along with a live auction of a handful of items. “The annual Auction is a lot of fun for people looking to find unique holiday gifts and is a great way for HART to raise money for its shelter. All of the proceeds directly benefit and positively impact our cats,” says Sarah McNamara, HART volunteer and President. The ticket price includes appetizers, desserts and entry into several door prize raffles. A cash bar will be available, music will be provided by DJ Ze, and Jennifer Gondek from WCLZ 98.9 will be host.
Sarah McNamara continued, ‘HART” not only provides shelter, food, and comfort to cats and kittens that have been surrendered, abandoned, injured or abused, but we provide a great deal of medical care and then find loving homes for them.
Currently there are over 140 cats and roughly 50 kittens being cared for in comfortable settings. The cats who are awaiting adoption can roam freely in large rooms, play with other cats and bond with one another in the “un-caged” environment. This also allows potential adopters to observe the cats’ behaviors and personalities before adopting. In 2013, HART took in 582 surrendered or stray cats and found homes for 586, all with a volunteer staff. All cats are spayed or neutered, brought current on vaccinations and tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). HART is a 50l(c)(3) non-profit corporation licensed by the State of Maine and is located at 302 Range Road in Cumberland, Maine.
