Congress Square Park is Undergoing a Redesign Currently. This Sign was Designed by Frank Turk.

You are invited to attend and discuss three art schemes on Wednesday, May 17th at Room 5, of the Portland Public Library, Congress Street.  The meeting runs from 4:00 -pm – 6:00 pm. This is the monthly meeting of the Portland Public Art Committee. The art schemes are from the Sze Studio, Boston, for the Congress Square redesign project.

The scope of artist Susan Sze includes developing a concept for permanent public art to be sited in Congress Square in collaboration with WRT, the landscape design firm who will create a concept for Congress Square as a whole.

The Congress Square Park Redesign project is a public/private partnership between the City of Portland, the Portland Public Art Commission and the Friends of Congress Park.  The City currently has funds to develop schematic concepts and design development for the Park, interaction and public artwork.  The concepts developed by Sze and WRT will be used to hep raise money to implement the project.  The project team anticipates the project, if approved for implementation will require significant fundraising funds.  The City is also pursuing grant applications to fund the endeavor.
