It was announced this morning that New York has fined the Trump Organization $1.610.00 for its scheme to avoid paying taxes. This is the maximum amount the law allows under these circumatances. This follows last months conviction of the Organization for 17 tax crimes, including conspiracy and falsifying business records. A Trump Organization spokesperson has responded that the fine will be appealed.
However, many believe that this fine will be only a slap on the wrist for this company and not have the punishment intended for this infraction of the law. Donald Trump, the former president, was not named in the conviction.
Meanwhile, US Representative, George A. Santos, remains steadfast in his refusal to resign from his recently elected position. He continues to say that he will let Long Island, NY voters decide in two years whether or not to re-elect him. Dan Goldman (D-NY) has filed a complaint against Santos with the Ethics Commission. One question that remains to be answered is: Where did Santos get the over $700,000. that he lent to his 2022 campaign? HIs only response so far has been that he has worked really hard to earn the money to finance his campaign. In his last public salary disclosure, he earned $55,000, yearly.
This could get really messy!
