People really enjoy Portland’s First Friday Art Walk. But if you are looking for something that is more low-key than the hustle and bustle of that monthly event, look to Bayside for an alternative.. In a recent press release issued by the Bayside Neighborhood Association, it suggests traveling off the “beaten parth” or well worn path.
The BNA suggests a visit to the 82Parris Gallery it descsribes as a truly collaborative effort of young local visionaries of the Portland art scene. There is also the new and expanding Maine Clay Collaborative that provides space for ceramic artists pottery classs for all skill levels and free open studio clay playtime on First Fridays. Then, nearby is a “delightful” new woonerf featring public sculpture by Clint Fulkerson. It’s in front of the renovaated brick warehouse that houses craft beer masters Argenta Brewing with resident food truck Hank & Artis’s. There’s the open fire pits on the patio of Wilson County BBQ’s featuring live music every Friday. Around the corner from the well-known Bayside Bowl is the hidden gem of the Apohadion Theatre. It presents eclectic off-beat and underground music of “infinite” variety.
There is so much to check out in the Bayside area – minus the crowds of Congress Street that can be off-putting for some.
