Shoplifter at Reny’s Arrested After Chase on Foot

Anthony Derring, (DOB 9-25-1990) homeless of Portland, was arrested and charged with robbery, possession of scheduled drug, violation of conditions of release and failure to submit to arrest according to a press release issued by the Portland Police Department today.

Derring was caught shoplifting at Reny’s store, 540 Congress Street, on Saturday, July 25, 2020, just before noon.  Derring was assaulted by a store employee after he was seen shoplifting.  He fled with the stolen merchandise after the assault.  A short time later, an officer spotted the suspect near the intersection of Temple and Congress Streets.  When the officer tried to detain him, the suspect fled on foot but was caught behind Portland High School off of Cumberland Avenue.
