Portland Fire Department Responds to Fire at 249 Spring Street; No Injuries Reported

The Portland Fire Department was alerted to the report of smoke coming from a structure at 249 Spring Street at 10:01 am on Wednesday, May 14th.  On arrival, Portland companies reported a fire in the basement with exension to the first floor of a two and a half-story, multi-family structure.  The all-hands assignment was struck at 10:09 am.  Reports were initially received of two residents possibly unaccounted for in the building.  However, rapid searches of all floors ensured the two occupants exited the building safely and that the building was unoccupied while extinguishment occurred simultaneously in the basement.  The fire was considered under control at 10:37 am.

The fire is still under investigation.
