Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) released the following statement in response to the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis about the Republican ACA repeal will cause 14 million Americans to immediately lose health care access, 24 million by 2026, and cause premiums to rise by 15 – 20%.
“The Republican health care plan is Robin Hood in reverse. It’s a huge tax cut for the wealthy at the expense of older and lower-income Americans who will face increased costs and other barriers to care. It’s unthinkable that the House will consider passing a bill that not only drops 14 million Americans from coverage immediately but could increase premiums by 20 percent. By advancing this harmful bill Republicans have demonstrated that the physical, mental and financial well-being of millions of Americans is secondary to delivering tax cuts to the wealthy.”
“Today’s Congressional Budget Office score confirms the very real and dangerous implications of Speaker Ryan’s plan – it will create choas in this system and leave people worse off hen before. This plan will do everything that most Americans oppose: 32 million will lose their coverage while insurance premiums double,” wrote Emily Brostek, executive director, Consumers for Affordable Heath Care in a press release issued earlier today as well.
“….we can and must do better. Congress needs to go back to the drawing board and come back with a plan that results in better coverage, lower costs and improved health care for children and adults,” Brostek concluded.
