You are invited to attend a neighborhood meeting on Monday, August 14th at 6:30 pm at the Reiche Community Room on the west end of Portland according to west end resident Jo Coyne. District 2 City Councilor Spencer Thibodeau will attend.
This is an important opportunity to learn details of the rezoning text amendment that has been approved by the planning board and is now subject to city council approval. It’s also an opportunity to let Councilor Thibodeau know how you feel about the proposed changes. While the rezoning application has been revised somewhat, the current version still allows for one 75 ft. high building per lot – way out of scale for the western waterfront according to Coyne.
“My position is that the request by the city, MPA and Americold is a substantial change to the current zoning that requires these parties to prove the requested changes…the Western Waterfront Working Group (WWWG) has not opposed cold storage, but wants to ensure that any facility built there is in the size and character of the area.” Thibodeau agrees with this position, he wrote in part in an email to mhn.com on July 26, 2017 in response to a request for his position on the controversy. Thibodeau is a local real estate attorney and it is his priority to protect real estate interests that come before the City Council.
That’s taking a really gutsy stand for your constituents in the west end of Portland, Councilor!
