“This proposal from the US Environmental Protection Agency undercuts more than a decade’s worth of progress to protect the health of our planet and our people,” said Governor Janet T. Mills (D) in a statement issued yesterday.  “Maine is already contending with extreme weather and flooding that threatens our environment, public health, and economy.  Allowing unchecked greenhouse gas emissions will only exacerbate these challenges and leave us susceptible to dangerous pollution from other states carried here by prevailing winds.  As this new rule undergoes the formal public process, my Administration will remain steadfast in our commitment to protect the health of Maine people and our clean air and water, which are the foundation of pur economy.”

In a telephone call to Senator Susan Collins (R) office in Washington, DC this afternoon, a staff member admitted that she had no idea what the Senator thought about the controversial EPA’s retreat from a scientific based approach to climate change to a Neanderthal approach by the Trump admnistration.  Elizabeth from Swans Island said she was not familiar with Senator Collins views on the matter, although she had heard of the controversy herself.  The Senator’s Communications Director, Kernen Blake, has not responded to in inquiry from this blogger as to her view on this subject). Elizabeth also said she had no idea where the Senator stood on the release of the Epstein files.  (Please visit post herein dated July 24, 2025 for background on the Senator’s “out-of-sync” views with a majority of the nation).

That’s encouraging because the controvery was  the lead story on the front page of “The New York Times” today.  In a nutshell, the “Times” said that the “Agency would lose its authority for reining in emissions.”
