Governor Janet T. Mills, Maine’s Congressional Delegation, Maine Secretary of State Mathew Dunlap and the Maine Bicentennial Commission will observe Maine Statehood Day on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Avenue in Augusta.

“This is truly a once-in-a lifetime event and we are treating it accordingly,” said Bicentennial Commission Chairman Senator Bill Diamond.  “Maine being the 23rd state of the US was momentous for those who lived here then.  We rightfully take time to mark the occasion and do what those who came before us did:  look forward with hope, optimism and confidence in the future of Maine.”

The ceremony, open to the public, will feature presentations by Maine State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. and Maine Poet Laureate Stuart Kestenbaum.

The Bangor Symphony Orchestra and a special combined Bicentennial Chorus will perform the world premiere of music commissioned for Maine Bicentennial.

Additionally, the US Postal Service will launch the nationwide sale of the commerative Maine Maine Bicentennial postage stamp.

Doors will open at noon and overflow parking will be available at the Statehouse complex lots.  Maine Public will broadcast the ceremony live.  For more information, please visit Maine200.org
