Governor Mills Announces Plans for Construction of Manufacturing Facility at Former Jay Paper Mill Site

Governor Janet T. Mills (D), the first woman governor of Maine, today announced that Godfrey Forest Products has initiated the process of constructing an oriented strand board (OSB) manufacturing facility at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay.

When construction is completed in approximately 18 to 24 months, the Jay Mill project is expected to create 125 jobs on site, in addition to construction jobs  Other developers are exploring projects on the mill site with additional job prospects.

“When Pixelle decided to close the Androscoggin Mill last year, I pledged that my administration would continue our efforts to diversify the forest products sector and sustain the good paying jobs it creates across our state,” said Governor Mills.  “While there is plenty of work ahead, today’s announcement is an important milestone on the road to a new future for this historic mill and to a stronger, more diverse forest products sector in Maine.”
