Governor Mills Announces Second Inauguration Program for January 4, 2023 at Augusta Civic Center

Governor Janet T. Mills Addressing the National Governors Association Summer Meeting in Mid-July in Portland at the Holiday Inn on Spring Street.

Governor Janet T. MIlls (D) announced yesterday the program for her Second Inauguration next week – on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Civic Center, in Augusta.  Highights of the inauguration include the reading of original poems by Julia Bouwsma, Maine’s Poet Laureate, and those of poet Richard Blanco.  The inauguration will also feature musical performances by Dave Mallett, the Pihcintce Multi-National Girls Choir, the Franklin County Fiddlers, the Sochalexis Family Singers and the 195th Maine Armory National Guard Band.

Governor Mills is Maine’s first woman governor.  In her historic reelection victory, she earned more votes than any governor in Maine history.  She is the first Governor since 1970 to be elected with a majority of the votes for both terms in office.

The schedule for the inauguration is as follows:

4:30, Doors Open at the Civil Center; 5:00, Pre-Inaugural Concert; 6:00, Reconvening of the Legislature in Convention; 6:30, Poetry Reading and Musical Performance; and 7:00, Inaugural Address by the Honorable Janet T. Mills,

Tickets are required for entry.  Members of the public who have not received an invitation in the mail are able to reserve a ticket at www..janetmills.com/rsvp.  Those unale to reserve a ticket online can call 207 – 358-9350 to reserve one.  Tickets are reserved on a first come, first serve basis until  the Civic Center’s capacity is reached.  For security reasons, no backpacks or large bags will be allowed.

The Oath of Office will be administered by Troy Jackson, President of the Maine Senate.  That will be followed by a “Proclamation” by Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.  Both will occur just after 6:30 pm.
