The city of Portland announced today that it is hosting a fireworks display on the Fourth of July this year.  The display will be held on Monday, July 4, in its usual spot on the Eastern Promenade.  The fireworks are set to go off around 9:15 pm.  A rain date is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5th.  Food trucks will be available at the Cutter Street lot.

Fireworks will be launched from the East End Trail.  The Trail will need to be closed from Cutter Street to the Water Treatment Plant from 6:00 am until deemed safe by city staff (approimately 11:00 pm).  In the event of rain, these Trail closings would be in effect until Tuesday, July 5th (same times would apply).

Streets on Munjoy HIll will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 5:30 pm to 11:00 pm on Monday, July 4th.  As there has been in some previous years, there will be no musical  accompanying the fireworks.  It is also recommended as in past years, that pets such as dogs be left at home.  Bring a sweater or jacket because it can get cool on the Eastern Prom late at night.
