The Pumpkinfest & Regatta runs from October 10 – 13 in Damariscotta and is Really Fun & Unique for All Ages
“Maine is approachig peak foliage condiions heading into the holiday weekend. Vibrant fall colors are unfolding across the state, especially in the central, coastal and southern regions, where leaves remain plentiful and intact. It’s an ideal time for leaf-peeping enthusiasts to plan outdoor adventures and enjoy the many fall events happening statewide over the next couple of weeks before foliage passes its peak,” said Gale Ross, Maine’s fall foliage spokesperson in a press release issued this afternoon from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.
One special way to enjoy the outdoors is at the annual Pumpkinfest & Regatta in Damariscotta. It runs from October 10 – 13. That’s when downtown Damariscotta is transformed into a giant pumpkin display. Local artists and non-artists paint giant size pumpkins often with sponsors from local stores and other area businesses. In addition to the giant painted pumpkin displays, there is a pumpkin derby and the signature regatta. The latter is where hollowed-out gourds race across the harbor. Occastionally one of them doesn’t make it and sinks right before your eyes! This latter event makes this one of Maine’s most popular and unique fall celebrations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by this blogger!
Monday, October 13 is Indigeneous Peoples’ Day, formerly Columbus Day.
