East End of Portland Site of Two Art & Craft Shows This Weekend

Tidings Art & Craft Show at Ocean Gateway, Sunday, December 3rd.

Art on the Hill is the Annual Show at East End Community School, North Street, Portland.

Abigail Gray Swartz, One of the Organizers of the Tidings Show, was the Artist for the February 6, 2017 cover of the “New Yorker”Magazine, “Rosie the Riveter”  – Wear Your “Pussy” Hat Proudly,  Rosie. 

Tidings Craft & Art Fair is hosting its first holiday sale at Ocean Gateway on the Maine State Pier this Sunday, December 3rd from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Admission is free as is parking in the Ocean Gateway parking lot.

Shoppers will be able to select from a variety of handmade items including art, jewelry, pottery, artisanal cheeses, wood carved items, herbal products, screen printed textiles, handmade clothing, fibre art, note cards, and so much more.  Holiday trees and greenery will also be available. There will be music and food and activities for children.  The two entrepreneurs behind the Show are:  Abigail Gray Swartz and Carli Balbo, who makes herbal products – herbal teas and beauty products.  (See photo at right for more information on Swartz.)

Last year the show was held at One Longfellow on the west end.  The space was not large enough, hence the expansion to Ocean Gateway this year.  For more information, please visit www.tidingsportland.com.

A second show on the east end is the annual “Art on the Hill”  at the East End Community School, 195 North Street.  The show runs on Friday, December 1st from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm; Saturday, December 2nd  from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm; and on Sunday, December 3rd from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.   The show is at least twelve years old according to its two founders:  They are Colleen Bedard and Elizabeth Frazier, both long-time Munjoy Hill residents.
