One hundred people are expected to participate in the annual Polar Bear Plunge at East End Beach today at noon.   This annual event is a fundraiser for the Natural Resources Council of Maine.  The funds go toward the non-profits efforts to reduce climate change pollution.

The 5K begins at ll:00 am and the dip is at noon – the “warmest’ part of the day.  Registration opens at 9:30 am today at the East End Beach which is below the Eastern Promenade.  The participants range in age from 10 years old to 76 years old.

Ten of the dippers will be dressed up as a wedding party, including a real bride dand groom, who will marry this sprng, accompanied by their wedding party.  “We’re taking the plunge before we take the plunge,” they said in a press release issued by the NRCM.

The public is invited to attend and cheer on these hearty souls for a good cause.
