You are invited to attend an opening reception for Bill Woodman, a cartoonist for The New Yorker for decades later this week. Twenty (20) of his watercolors and original cartoons will be on exhibit at Casco Bay Artisans, on the Maine Wharf, 68 Commercial Street. The reception is on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Woodman’s work will be on display from October 29th until November 13, 2015.
Woodman, a Bangor native, was for decades a cartoonist for The New Yorker, Playboy and more recently Down East. On exhibit at CBA will be a mix of his watercolors and original cartoonists that he submitted to The New Yorker. Woodman has also illustrated a number of children’s’ books.Prices for the watercolors are $700. while prices for the original cartoons range from $1,200. to $1,400.
Shortly after CBA opened in August of 2015, Bill Woodman walked in said Jen Swarts, owner of the popular gallery recently. Woodman told her he’d like to show some of his work at CBA. Was she interested? “I normally don’t get star struck, but I spent my entire childhood reading his captions in The New Yorker,” said Swarts. “Sometimes my parents would have to explain them, but every time my sister, Amy, and I would giggle.” She was star struck this time. No giggling at this opening reception though!
Woodman divides his time between Portland and New York City.
