“American Oversight” a Washington, DC based non-profit, watchdog, won its lawsuit against Trump administration officials it was announced late today. The lawsuit was filed in a Washington, DC federal court yesterday and names Hegseth, Gabbard, Ratcliffe, the Secretary of the Treasury and Marco Rubio in the suit.
The lawsuit is the consequence of the recent revelation that Trump officials used the Signal platform to transmit classified information on an upcoming attack in Yemen. The highly respected Jeffrey Goldberg, Editor, of “The Atlantic” magazine was included in the chat room.
Significantly, it was disclosed that Signal messages are set to be deleted. Hence, no record of those chats are kept. That is in violation of the Federal Records Act and provided the legal basis for this successful lawsuit.
It was announced this afternoon that Federal Judge James Boasberg ruled that Signal messages between March 11 and 15th must be preserved – by 5 cabinet members – winning a temporary restraining order against the defendants in the case. The presiding judge in the case, Judge Boasberg, is not a favorite judge of CFs because of his ruling against the Trump administration in the deportation fiasco. The judge added that this ruling will be put in writing.
