The AC Portland Hotel on the waterfront plans to be open for guests on Thursday, June 21st. The 178-room hotel is close to opening and there are staff positions yet to be filled by that time.
In a tour by an unidentified guide, this blogger saw the interior of a luxurious hotel that will be a memorable experience for its guests – keeping them returning and returning. AC are the initials of the now deceased Italian gentleman from whom Marriott purchased the patent for the hotel. Open and airy, the view of the Harbor from a sixth floor penthouse epitomizes the care taken to highlight all that the waterfront has to offer to its guests.
Yet to be put in place, is a metal sculpture by a local artist whose name could not be recalled.
The hotel is still looking to fill a variety of staff positions. Steven Fennell, CCE and facility manager, said there are positions available in the kitchen (cooks), housekeeping, bar tenders and valet people. “We’d really like to fill these positions from the local workforce,” said Fennell this afternoon. About sixty percent of the 40 positions have been filled.
Next to the AC Portland Hotel construction has begun on two office/retail buildings by developer Ara Aftandilian.
