It’s beginning to look like musical chairs at City Hall!
The City announced today that Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck has been nominated to serve as Acting City Manager until the position at city hall is filled permanently. Sauschuck will be stepping in for Acting Manager Sheila Hill-Christian who resigned her post to take another position in Cincinnati, Ohio. He’s expected to take over this position on Friday, May 8th which is the last day of Christian’s employment in Portland.
Sauschuck’s nomination still needs to be voted on at the Monday, April 27th Council meeting. He will assume these duties until a new Acting City Manager is hired. Acting Police Chief Vern Malloch will be appointed to serve as Acting Police Chief during Sauschuck’s absence.
The city is currently in the midst of a search for a new city manager. The City Manager Search Committee has been meeting for the last several months and working with Municipal Resources, Inc., a search firm that specialized in public sector executive recruitments.
The Committee is currently reviewing interested applicants and will ask between 9 and 11 candidates to respond to essay questions. Based on those responses, the Committee will narrow the field to as many as six candidates for in-person interviews during the week of May 11th. The goal is to have a permanent City Manager in place by July 1, 2015.
