Today, U.S.  Senate candidate Sara Gideon visited the Margaret Chase Smith Library in Skowhegan with the former Republican State Representative and Lincoln County Campaign Chairman for Senator Collins Les Fossel to discuss Senator Smith’s legacy and the example she set for Maine’s elected officials who followed her.

“Senator Margaret Chase Smith exemplified true leadership and a commitment to standing up for what’s right, no matter the consequences,” said US Senate candidate Sara Gideon.  “Maine has a tradition of strong and independent leaders and Senator Smith was a trailblazer for our state and the rest of the country.  Mainers deserve a Senator who will stand up for what’s right and work with anyone to deliver results for our state.”

“Maine people deserve leaders like Senator Margaret Chase Smith:  principled, brave and independent.  That’s why we must elect Sara Gideon to the Senate,” said former Maine GOP official and State Legislator Les Fossel.  “As a lifelong Republican and a former county chair for Senator Collins,” I know that Senator Collins has failed to demonstrate the courage and honesty that Mainers need from their leaders, particularly in these very trying times.  It’s time.  It’s time for new leadership in Washington.”
