As had been expected, Police Chief James Craig announced this afternoon he has resigned as Portland’s Chief because he has been offered a similar post in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Craig’s plans are incomplete, but he expects to leave Portland in late July.  He will be sworn in on August 2nd for his new position.  Craig said this will be his final move because it’s like going home for him – he’s from Detroit, MI. which is only several hundred miles from Cincinnati.
Assistant chief Michael Sauchuch will serve as interim  assistant police chief upon Craig’s departure from Portland.
Craig said the system for hiring a new chief had not been set up yet, but he believed that there were people within the police department well qualified to take over in his absence.
Sauchuck said he intends to apply for the position of Police Department Chief.
