This afternoon the wealthy Senator Angus King (I), who usually issues joint press releases with Senator Susan Collins (R), went solo and announced his opposition to the election of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court of the US.
Why it took the Senator so long to come to a decision on whether or not to support Gorsuch is a source of concern for Maine voters. It should have been a no-brainer from the start of the process.
“By rejecting Trump’s extreme Supreme Court nominee, Senator Angus King is helping to build the Senate firewall against Trump’s anti-democratic, anti-civil rights and anti-environmental agenda. Senator Collins should follow his lead not only to reject Gorsuch, but to preserve the filibuster for matters as significant as to who sits on our Supreme Court We are asking…..,,,,, call Senator Collins to tell her that Gorsuch is not worth destroying one of the most important Senate traditions,” according to Glen Brand, Director, Sierra Club Maine Chapter, in Portland.
