A Joint Gardening Effort Between Cultivating Community and Portland Youth Services
For the third year in a row, Cultivating Community is supporting students at East End Community School in their efforts to maintain a garden on North Street – across from the elementary school.
Yesterday afternoon Alida Payson and Alfred Jacob, employees of the ten year old non-profit were working in the garden -doing the “heavy lifting” as Alfred Jacob said. Working with them were members of the Portland Youth Services program. “We partner with schools all over Portland to create school gardens and get students outside and learning about gardening,” said Alida Payson.
The vegetables from the garden will be made into a soup and students at East End Community School will eat the soup in the fall.
Cultivating Community is a non-profit organzation based in East Bayside. It is funded federally as well as from private sources.
