Adam Cote, Democratic candidate for Governor of Maine is a hypocrite. Let me tell you why!
Peter Carpenter, a California-based insurance executive and long-time contributor to the Republican party, has just donated $25,000. to the campaign of Adam Cote. Cote is running for Governor of Maine and is seriously behind Attorney General Janet Mills, the forerunner in the Democratic primary.
In the past Carpenter has donated campaign funds to Republicans such as Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Paul Ryan and the Republican National Committee. Most notably, his only other contribution in Maine politics was to Charlie Sumner, the Republican running against Representative Chellie Pingree (D) in 2008.
Just a few days ago, Cote and his campaign attacked Emily’s List for working to elect pro-choice women, for the PAC’s support of Janet, but now that it has a wealthy Republican pouring money into the race, there has been radio silence! No more nasty comments about Emily’s List – a highly respected national organization. Cote’s Hail Mary backfired all over him like a carton of raw eggs. He doesn’t want anyone to know, but you do know.
Meanwhile, Emily’s List has issued a press release detailing why this non-profit is supporting Janet. She was the first woman to serve as a district attorney in all of New England before becoming the first women to serve as Maine’s attorney general. She has also served as a state representative. Janet has taken on Paul LePage, the Trump administration and Wall Street to fight for Maine. Janet’s fought to help Mainers stay in their homes, expand healthcare coverage and address the opioid crisis.
Janet is running for an open governorship and has been a front runner in a crowded primary in the first statewide election with ranked-choice voting in effect.
Emily’s List is a non-profit that supports Democratic women who are pro-choice.
Please don’t be fooled by Cote’s last ditch Spin!
